is
a superb market town nestling in the Pyrenees 30 kms from Perpignan and 12 kms from the Spanish border.
Visit the bustling, rustic Saturday morning market or wander
down the medieval cobbled streets to the Museum of Modern
Art, stopping along the way to take in a cappuccino at
one of the many quaint bars and cafes. There are also several
quaint arty-type shops and galleries with a funky yet cosmopolitan
range of merchandise. Ceret is well worth a day out, and
the more adventurous can explore the more rugged countryside
and mountains beyond toward the Spanish border.
The many visits to Ceret and its vicinity by
great 20th Century artists are beautifully displayed in
the Céret
Museum of Modern Art. From Picasso, Braque, Gris, Soutine,
Chagall, Herbin, Matisse, to Miró, Tàpies,
Viallat, Toni Grand... Cubisme à l'Ecole de Paris,
to Nouveau Réalisme...
Temporary exhibitions permit a closer
acquaintance with these periods in the South of France
and Catalogne, and
also access developments in the contemporary art world.
